Man arrested in October shooting that killed woman in east Toledo

The Oct. 26 shooting killed Elisha Meraz, 32.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A suspect in an October east Toledo homicide that killed a woman was arrested Monday. 

According to a press release from Toledo police, Deondrae Ballard, 32, was arrested Monday by officers from the US Marshals Task Force and TPD. Ballard, who is accused of shooting and killing 32-year-old Elisha Meraz, was arrested at a family member's home, police said. 

Ballard is accused in the shooting death of Meraz, whom officers found near Church Street and Prentice Avenue on Oct. 26 around 1 a.m. According to officers, Meraz was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound. She was taken to the hospital where she later died. 

A warrant was issued on Oct. 31 for Ballard's arrest. Upon his arrest, Ballard was charged with felonious assault and murder.
