Victim from 2001 shooting dies, death ruled homicide

The victim was shot in late 2001, causing an injury that led to the death, the report said.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A victim in a 2001 shooting has died, according to the Lucas County Coroner's Office, who ruled the death a homicide in a press release Tuesday.

According to the release, 47-year-old Craig Fox was pronounced dead on Jan. 12, 2024 at a south Toledo home in the 400 block of Shasta Drive. An autopsy found the cause of death to be complications of urinary tract infection due to thoracic spinal cord injury, due to a gunshot wound to the back.

The initial shooting occurred on Dec. 16, 2001. Fox, who was 25 at the time, had went outside to walk his dog when someone walked up behind him and shot him in the back with a 32-caliber firearm, according to Toledo police records. The suspect fled the scene after shooting Fox.
