TOLEDO, Ohio — A man was sentenced Tuesday for charges in the death of 20-year-old Josiah Gill, whose body was found in a burning car beneath an east Toledo bridge in 2023.
Alexander Perez was sentenced to 54 months - four years and six months - on Tuesday for charges of arson, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse, charges he pleaded guilty to on Monday. He was accused of burning the car in which Gill's deceased body was found.
For each charge, Perez was sentenced to 14, 30 and 10 months, respectively.
The body of Josiah Gill was discovered in a car that was on fire in a grassy area under the Veterans Glass City Skyway Bridge early in the morning of Nov. 9, 2023. Crews had to extinguish the blaze before they could reach Gill's remains.
An autopsy later revealed that Gill had died from a gunshot wound to the head. According to court records, Perez set the car on fire with Gill in the backseat.
