TOLEDO, Ohio — A man convicted in a west Toledo hit-and-run that killed a 72-year-old in 2023 learned his sentence Thursday.
Court records indicate Kyle Hassan-Morgan will spend five years in prison for the June 20, 2023, hit-skip crash that killed Ralph Hamilton Jr. Hassan-Morgan pleaded no contest to aggravated vehicular homicide and failure to stop after an accident on Sept. 17.
According to court documents, Hamilton Jr. was crossing Douglas Road near Edgebrook Drive when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Hassan-Morgan. Hassan-Morgan initially stopped before fleeing the scene of the crash, police said.
At the time of the crash, Hassan-Morgan had a suspended license.
Hamilton was taken to the hospital and died from his injuries.
In the days following the crash, the Toledo Police Department requested the public's help in locating the driver of the car believed to be responsible.
Hassan-Morgan was arrested in October.
