Final of six defendants convicted in 2023 homicide of Monroe woman

Kaylyn Ramsey pleaded no contest to a murder charge in the homicide of Kayla Sedoskey. Ramsey, along with the five others convicted, are set to be sentenced in May.

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. — The final of six defendants charged in the 2023 killing of a Monroe woman was convicted Monday.

Kaylyn Ramsey, 34, of Wakeman, Ohio, pleaded no contest to a second-degree murder charge in the homicide of Kayla Sedoskey, who was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds at the abandoned Boysville Juvenile Facility in Frenchtown Township in March 2023, according to a press release from the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office.

Ramsey's conviction follows five others: Sierra Bemis, Brin Smith, Alexander Feko, Steven Bails and Narena Bails, Steven Bails' wife.

The prosecutor's office says the motive for killing Sedoskey remains unclear, but that Smith lured her to the abandoned facility where her killers attacked her.

Steven Bails, Narena Bails, Bemis and Feko are set to be sentenced on May 23. Ramsey and Smith are set to be sentenced on May 30.

Both Ramsey and Smith's pleas carry a minimum sentence of 40 years in prison, according to the prosecutor's office.

Steven Bails, who was found guilty of first-degree homicide in March 2024, faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Narena Bails and Bemis pleaded guilty to second-degree homicide in February and judge dismissed other homicide charges against the two.

Feko pleaded guilty to one count of tampering with evidence in January.

"Prosecutor (Jeffrey) Yorkey personally thanks the team of law enforcement officials from both the Michigan State Police and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department along with the Michigan State Crime Lab," the prosecutor's office said in the press release. "Detective Sergeant Michael Peterson, from the Monroe Post of the Michigan State Police led the nearly one-year long investigation. Dozens of law enforcement officials worked between agencies to collect the evidence used in this case."
