KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. — An 18-year-old Toledo man accused of shooting and killing a teenage girl in March was arrested in Indiana on Saturday morning.
According to the Indiana State Police, Robert Shields III was pulled over on I-70 for speeding around 7 a.m. near Knightstown, Indiana, east of Indianapolis.
When officers discovered that Shields had a warrant out for his arrest, he was placed under arrest.
Shields is accused of shooting 15-year-old Jaylah Perry in the head in a home on Park Street in north Toledo on March 17.
On Sunday, Jaylah's father John spoke about Shields arrest and what the lessons people should take from his experience.
"Please, please look after your children. Please pay attention to what's going on in their lives. So that you don't have to experience what I've experienced. Learn from my pain. Please learn from my pain. Everybody in Toledo please do," said John Perry.
Shields was preliminarily charged in Indiana for:
Possession of Marijuana - a class B Misdemeanor.
Operator never Licensed - a class C Misdemeanor
He was taken to the Henry County Jail where he is awaiting extradition back to Ohio.
