Man convicted in 76-year-old's death at Maumee park

Zachary Boyer was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of 76-year-old John Meeker at Side Cut Metropark in November of last year.

LUCAS COUNTY, Ohio — A man was convicted Monday of involuntary manslaughter for an altercation at a Maumee park last year that seriously injured a 76-year-old who eventually died at the hospital.

Zachary Boyer's sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 5 at 9 a.m. in the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas.

He had previously pleaded not guilty to other charges, including murder, but withdrew the plea on Monday and pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Boyer injured 76-year-old John Meeker during an altercation at Side Cut Metropark on Nov. 4, 2023, according to police. Meeker died at the hospital on Nov. 15.

An autopsy revealed Meeker sustained blunt head trauma that included a skull fracture and underlying injuries to the brain, according to the Lucas County Coroner's office.
