TOLEDO, Ohio — A Toledo man was sentenced to prison on Monday after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter for the homicide of a 36-year-old man last December at the Ashland Manor in central Toledo.

Terrance Oliver, 42, was sentenced to 6-9 years in prison on the charge. The Alford plea he took dropped charges of murder, felonious assault and having weapons while under disability.

An Alford plea is not an admission of guilt. A defendant entering an Alford plea agrees to be found guilty without admitting they committed the crime. The defendant acknowledges there is enough evidence against them to be convicted. It is often entered to avoid a greater penalty and is treated as a guilty plea.

Oliver was taken into custody on a murder warrant six days after Antron Tilman was shot in the chest and killed just after midnight on Dec. 6, 2023. Officers at the scene told WTOL 11 Tilman was rushed to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. The Lucas County Coroner's Office ruled Tilman's death a homicide.
