TOLEDO, Ohio — A man was sentenced to six to nine years in prison Monday after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the death of a 76-year-old at a Maumee park.
Zachary Boyer previously pleaded not guilty to other charges, including murder, but withdrew the plea in July and pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
Boyer injured 76-year-old John Meeker during an altercation at Side Cut Metropark on Nov. 4, 2023, according to police. Meeker died at the hospital on Nov. 15.
An autopsy revealed Meeker sustained blunt head trauma that included a skull fracture and underlying injuries to the brain, according to the Lucas County Coroner's office.
