TOLEDO, Ohio — UPDATE: Arie Hall-Jones pleaded guilty on June 27 in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to trafficking in cocaine, trafficking in fentanyl, aggravated trafficking, having weapons while under disability, failure to comply and resisting arrest.

He's scheduled to be sentenced on July 29.

A Lucas County grand jury indicted a man on 20 counts Thursday after he allegedly led Toledo police on a south Toledo vehicle and foot pursuit and was eventually shot at by officers.

A jury also declined to indict the three detectives — James Macklin, Anthony Martin and Michael Mugler II — who shot at 22-year-old Arie Hall-Jones, but did not hit him. Authorities pulled him over on Jan. 30 because he was suspected of possessing a firearm he was not allowed to have as a convicted felon.

Hall-Jones was indicted on the following charges:

  • trafficking in cocaine
  • possession of cocaine
  • trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound, second-degree felony

  • aggravated trafficking in drugs

Detectives from the Toledo Gang Taskforce conducted the traffic stop on Hall-Jones "in relation to intelligence gathered by the Crime Gun Intelligence Center," according to a Toledo police report.

Hall-Jones fled in his vehicle after detectives saw a firearm in his vehicle, eventually crashing into a light pole, according to the report. He then fled on foot with a gun in hand that he pointed "in the direction of detectives causing them to fire their department issued handguns at him," according to police.
