Dundee officer injured during arrest at park

The incident occurred at Wolverine Park, police said.

DUNDEE, Ohio — One man is in custody after he allegedly bit and injured a police officer at a Dundee park Thursday.

According to a social media post from the Dundee Police Department, an officer attempted to detain a 37-year-old man, whom the post described as homeless. The man was accused of being at Wolverine Park after closing. Law enforcement also said the man had recently illegally entered an abandoned house nearby.

Police claimed the man became combative and began shouting profanities when the officer attempted to detain him for questioning. The officer then radioed for assistance; a Monroe County Sheriff's deputy and a Michigan State Police officer responded to the scene. Two citizens also came to the aid of the officer, police said.

All officers attempted to deescalate the situation, police claimed, but the suspect still refused to comply. Police then attempted to take the man into custody. The man then allegedly resisted by kicking and hitting. The man is also accused of biting the Dundee officer on the shoulder and causing other injuries to the officer.

The man was taken into custody at Monroe County Jail where he was charged with assaulting and resisting and obstructing a police office, causing injury. The man was also charged with breaking and entering and illegal entry without owner's permission.

The officer was later treated for injuries at a hospital.
