TOLEDO, Ohio — Police reported the reckless operation of dozens of vehicles Sunday, including street racing and blocking traffic.
According to a Toledo police report, officers were dispatched to a parking lot in the 5300 block of Dorr Street at approximately 11:30 p.m. Sunday on a report of a large gathering of vehicles that were allegedly street racing and performing donuts. According to police, 60 or more vehicles were present in the area.
Police arrived on scene and said the crowd ran to their vehicles and fled. According to police, many of the drivers were reckless as they dispersed; due to the traffic jam the vehicles caused, however, police said they were unable to apprehend any suspects.
The parking lot at the scene had evidence that suspects were performing burnouts and donuts, officers said in the report. Police then responded to a gas station on Dorr Street and Reynolds Road to deter the crowd from gathering there.
Earlier that day, police said they received several complaints across the city for reckless driving, including the areas of Dorr and Reynolds, Airport and Byrne, and Douglas and Alexis. Police said drivers of cars and motorcycles were accused of blocking intersections to businesses and traffic lights. According to police, crews issued several traffic stops and citations related to the driving infractions.
