TOLEDO, Ohio — According to the Toledo Police Department, officers from the SWAT unit responded to an incident in the 900 block of Hamilton Street at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, June 24.
Authorities state that SWAT had been tasked with locating Jamont Mason, 21, who was wanted for felonious assault after shooting a person back in April.
Police said Mason had shot a person in the head after a fight broke out on the corner of Bush Street and North Erie Street on April 30.
TPD officers state that after arriving at Mason's address, officers spoke to Mason's mother. Police report that his mother said he was at the home, but she was not sure where he was in the house.
Police state that they entered the home as Mason's mother went into a bedroom to search for him. According to authorities, a short time after she entered the bedroom a gunshot was heard coming from the direction of the room.
SWAT officers state that they began to advance towards the sound of the gunshot, where they found Mason coming down a flight of stairs near the bedroom.
Police report that Mason was promptly taken into custody. Police state that after conducting a sweep of the home spent shell casings, several loose bullets and a loaded pistol magazine were found, but no gun was recovered from the scene.
TPD did not specify who shot the gun in the home or if anyone involved sustained injuries.
Mason has been charged with resisting arrested following the incident, as well as felonious assault for the April 30 shooting.
