Teen charged in death of man found in burning car in Toledo arrested in Alabama

The 16-year-old suspect was arrested in Alabama last week, according to Toledo police. TPD had issued a murder warrant for him in the death of Josiah Gill, 20.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Authorities have arrested the second of two people charged in the November homicide of a 20-year-old whose body was found in a burning car in east Toledo.

A 16-year-old was arrested in Alabama late last week, according to Toledo police. A murder warrant was issued for him in January for the death of 20-year-old Josiah Gill.

In January, Toledo police arrested Alexzander Perez, 31, and charged him with abuse of a corpse. Perez was arraigned on Feb. 8 in Lucas County Common Pleas court where he pleaded not guilty to all charges. A judge set his bond at $190,000. If he posts bond, he will be required to wear an electronic ankle monitor.

Gill's body was discovered in a car that was on fire in a grassy area under the Veterans Glass City Skyway Bridge early in the morning of Nov. 9. Crews had to extinguish the blaze before they could reach Gill's remains.

An autopsy later revealed that Gill had died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Editor's note: The 16-year-old suspect was previously named as Toledo police were searching for him, but per WTOL 11 policy, we will not name the juvenile suspect unless he's charged as an adult.
