TIFFIN, Ohio — Tiffin police and other law enforcement agencies took one person into custody Saturday following negotiation at an apartment.
According to a press release from the Tiffin Police Department, officers were dispatched to Sycamore Street at approximately 4:30 p.m. after receiving a call claiming two shots had been fired from an upstairs apartment. The shots had penetrated the ceiling of a downstairs apartment, the caller said.
Police arrived on scene, secured the area and began attempting to communicate with the occupants of the upstairs apartment. Authorities contacted the Black Swamp Emergency Service Unit (BSESU) for assistance.
By 5:10 p.m., the negotiation led to five juveniles voluntarily leaving the upstairs apartment. Police said the juveniles surrendered to officers and told police an adult male remained in the apartment and refused to come out. At this point, police said they received confirmation that a firearm was in the upstairs apartment and that shots had been fired.

The adult male suspect agreed to exit the apartment and surrendered to BSESU following additional negotiations at approximately 5:40 p.m., police said.
The suspect, later identified by Tiffin police as 18-year-old Lazarius Tucker, was arrested and transported to the Seneca County Jail on a separate, outstanding arrest warrant. The Seneca County Prosecutor's Office has not yet filed additional charges against Tucker for Saturday's incident, a department spokesperson said in an email to WTOL 11.
Authorities from both Tiffin PD and BSESU conducted searches of the apartment to collect the firearm and any other relevant evidence, in addition to ensuring the safety of the building.
