TOLEDO, Ohio — One person was arrested and charged after allegedly assaulting an officer during a detainment in central Toledo late Monday.

According to a Toledo police report, officers responded to the 1400 block of Norwood Avenue at approximately 10 p.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter Alert. Police arrived and saw whom they described as two males in a field. Police said they tried to stop the suspects, but they fled on foot and allegedly threw a handgun as they ran.

At the same time, police began investigating a "large party/gathering" consisting of 50 to 60 people at a home, also in the 1400 block of Norwood. Law enforcement said they identified a male suspect on the porch and attempted to detain him for questioning.

However, the suspect, identified in the report as 23-year-old Zaire Quinn, allegedly began to struggle with an officer, resulting in both of them ending up on the ground. Police claimed Quinn began to "punch and kick" the officer in the face; additional officers arrived on scene to assist the original officers. Meanwhile, another officer began struggling with another involved person, resulting in the officer sustaining an injury to his left elbow and thumb.
