Suspect indicted in Wood County on multiple felony charges in alleged kidnapping, trafficking of Texas woman

The suspect was indicted on five felony charges.

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Cincinnati man was indicted in Wood County Thursday on multiple felony charges after he was arrested during a traffic stop for allegedly kidnapping and trafficking a Texas woman

Langston Campbell was indicted on two counts of first-degree kidnapping with repeat violent offender specifications, tampering with evidence, disrupting public services and possessing criminal tools.

Wood County Sheriff's Office deputies stopped a vehicle in the Village of Cygnet on Feb. 14 for a traffic violation. The car's driver, identified as Campbell, 27, of Cincinnati, had a 29-year-old female passenger in the backseat.

Bodycam video from the Wood County Sheriff's Office shows deputies interviewing Campbell after pulling him over for speeding. During the video, Campbell is unable to provide authorities with proof of the vehicle's ownership or rental agreement, and claimed he was selling dogs for his business.

The bodycam video is included in part below. Note that audio is not included between 4:29 and 5:41, as it was redacted by the Wood County Sheriff's Office to protect the identity of the victims. Additionally, the sheriff's office provided WTOL 11 with bodycam video of an interview with the victim, but it was not included as the sheriff's office had also removed audio and blurred the video to protect the victim's identity.

The sheriff's office said they separated the Campbell and the passenger and learned that the unidentified female had been reported missing on Jan. 10 by her mother from San Bernardino, California.

While interviewing the female, deputies said they determined that she and her two-year-old son had been allegedly kidnapped and held against their will in Detroit, as well as in Port Huron, Michigan.

Campbell was arrested and booked into the Wood County Jail on two counts of kidnapping. Detectives then transported the female to Port Huron, and with the help of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, were able to successfully secure the child who was in the care of the suspect's mother, the Wood County Sheriff's Office said.
