TOLEDO, Ohio — A new, temporary Amtrak route is coming to Ohio, which will connect the Glass City - among other cities - to Florida. Here's what Amtrak leadership has to say about the route.
Beginning Nov. 10, passengers will be able to board a train in Toledo and travel to the Sunshine State without changing trains.
An Amtrak spokesperson said that, although the new route was made to accommodate construction on another portion of the railway on the East Coast, they are also hoping to gauge consumer demand for the route.
The new route, called "The Floridian" will be a combination of the existing lines: "Capital Limited" and "Silver Star".
The entire journey is expected to take approximately 47 hours, and cost $400 for a coach class ticket.
"The Floridian will pick you up at night, and then the next night and the following morning you will find yourself in Florida," said Marc Magliari, an Amtrak Spokesman.
The spokesman said the new service will operate on a similar schedule and take the same stops as the current trains.
"Until November, you've have had to change trains in Washington," Magliari explained. "Now you won't have to do that anymore. And on this route, both of our trains that go through Toledo will use the same style of equipment: our newest sleeping cars, the newest locomotives."
Tickets for the train are currently available, but private rooms are already sold out for the first ride on Nov. 10.
