TOLEDO, Ohio — Amy Berling, a former Toledo Municipal Court judge, died on Saturday at her home on Kelleys Island, her family confirmed. She was 74.
Berling served as a municipal judge beginning in 1996 and resigned from her judgeship in October of last year before the completion of her term, which was to last until Jan. 1, 2026.
She would not have been allowed to run for reelection due to her age, per state law.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine appointed James Anderson last year to fill the remainder of Berling's term.
Berling's relatives say she died while watching the sunset.
