The Lucas County Coroner's Office has confirmed the identity of a body found dead in the Maumee River on March 2.
The coroner's office told WTOL 11 the body was positively identified as Avery Alexander, a 26-year-old who was last seen Dec. 29. Toledo police asked the public for assistance in locating Alexander on Jan. 3. Toledo police also confirmed to WTOL 11 Alexander's identity.
The coroner's office did not provide WTOL 11 with a cause and manner of death at this time.
Alexander's body was found in the Maumee River after a bystander contacted authorities, saying they saw what appeared to be a body in the water off of the 1700 block of Marina Drive in east Toledo near the National Museum of the Great Lakes.
Responding officers on scene told WTOL 11 that the person was considered dead by the time they were retrieved from the water.
