TOLEDO, Ohio — Championship International Wrestling is set to return to the Glass City on Sunday.
There will be 15 to 20 wrestlers at the show at St. Clement Hall in west Toledo, according to CIW Vice President Chris Carter.
Carter said he's glad to bring the Midwest-based regional promotion back to Toledo because it's where he got his start.
Local talent too, like Kenny Urban, are excited to wrestle in front of a hometown crowd.
"It's not often we get to perform in front of our hometown. That's our people. That's our gaggle," Urban, who is from Sylvania, said.
CIW has been entertaining crowds with old-school wrestling — bodyslams, piledrivers, suplexes and much more — for more than 30 years.
The people who harken back an older style of professional wrestling are excited to bring it to Toledo once again. CIW previously hosted a show at St. Clement Hall in early March.
"We go to many different cities with our promotion," Carter said. "Toledo has always had a soft spot in my heart and I've wanted to come back here for years."
This event also benefits other local organizations.
"We've given out a stack of tickets to the Lucas County Special Olympians. I think the special olympians are one of the greatest groups in the world that you can help, so, we're hoping we'll get a big turnout from them," Carter said.
"It means the world to me because I've been in Toledo for so long and I wrestled here so many times. I want them to come to the show and leave and say, 'man, that was a great time,'" he said.
