TOLEDO, Ohio — Police arrested a man after they say he accidentally shot his young child in east Toledo Thursday morning.

The shooting happened at a home on the 800 block of McKinley Ave.

Police say Michael Bartlett accidentally discharged a firearm and hit his child in the lower leg. The child was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police say this was determined by witnesses and evidence collected at the scene.

SWAT teams and a negotiator were sent to the scene because police weren't sure if anyone else was inside the home or if the home needed to be cleared.

Bartlett was charged with felonious assault and endangering children.
