One killed in Sandusky County crash

SANDUSKY COUNTY, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash Thursday on US 6 in Washington Township.

Around 12:48 a.m., a 2001 Jeep Cherokee driven by Daniel Niezgoda, 38, went left and struck a 2014 Isuzu NPR-HD driven by Lowayne E. Etzler, 61, head-on. Niezgoda was traveling eastbound on US 6 while Etzler was traveling westbound.

Following the collision, Niezgoda's vehicle went south of the roadway into a ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Etzler's vehicle went north of the roadway and turned over where he was then transported to Saint Vincent's Hospital in Toledo with non-life-threatening injuries.

U.S. 6 was closed for approximately four hours following the accident, all lanes are now open. The crash remains under investigation.
