'It's terrifying': Findlay residents react to fatal shooting

J'vion Zimmerman, 18, was found in an alley near Main Street with at least one gunshot wound, according to Findlay police. He later died at the hospital.

FINDLAY, Ohio — Police are investigating a shooting in Findlay Sunday night that killed an 18-year-old from Port Clinton.

Police found J'vion Zimmerman suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the chest in an alley off Howard Street. He later died at the hospital.

People in the area told WTOL 11 they were shocked to hear this happened in their neighborhood and sad to hear someone got shot so close to home.

"This is just right where I live," said Findlay resident David Quansah, who lives right next to the alley. "It's not a good thing to hear about."

Quansah was at work Sunday night and a neighbor filled him in when he got home. He said he's lived at the apartments near the alley for two years and uses the alley often.

"It's a major route that I use and to hear that something happened right on that street, it's frightening," he said.

Quansah is worried about his safety and is considering moving.

Jim Baumlein, however, isn't planning on going anywhere.

"It's generally pretty quiet, it's right by the college," he said. "Findlay's a great town, it really is."

He was born and raised in Findlay and has lived on Howard Street for five years. Baumlein said when he heard about the shooting, he was shocked.

"When I saw the police officers in my backyard looking around it's like, what's going on?" he said. "Then when we got the news there was a shooting up here. Not that close to our house. Wasn't prepared for that at all."

Baumlein said when the police were looking around his property they asked him a few questions.

"(The police) saw a hat or ski mask and asked if it was mine. No, that's not mine," he said.

As police continue their investigation, neighbors are still processing.

Quansah said he is thinking about the 18-year-old's parents.

"They've lost their son," he said. "It's concerning, it's worrying, it's terrifying, it's bad."

Findlay police said in a press release Monday that no arrests have been made

No arrests have been made but a juvenile person of interest is being sought for questioning, according to a press release from Findlay police on Monday.
