TOLEDO, Ohio — The Jamie Farr Pool in north Toledo has been closed for the remainder of the season "due to unforeseen mechanical issues," the city announced on Tuesday.

The season-long closure comes one week after the city initially closed the pool.

Further details about the issues were not provided.

A new aquatic facility is in the works for Jamie Farr Park, though, according to the city.

Knowing that this was likely the last year of operation for the current pool facility, the City has already allocated funding and started planning for a new aquatic facility at Jamie Farr Park, including a recent public meeting to gather feedback from local residents," the city said.

Other city pools have been temporarily closed this summer.

A central Toledo splash pad was also the subject of scrutiny as it was closed during an extreme heat wave last month. The splash pad at the Rev. H.V. Savage Park reopened in early July and is set to eventually be demolished and replaced with a new one after Toledo City Council last week approved $150,000 for a redesign and requested an additional $3 million in federal funding.

The city encourages Toledoans to visit the following pools in the area, as well as the Savage Park splash pad:

  • Willys Pool: 1375 Hillcrest Ave
  • Navarre Pool: 1001 White St
  • Pickford Pool: 3000 Medford Dr
