Driver runs red light at Holland-Sylvania Road sending motorcyclist to hospital in critical condition

LUCAS COUNTY, Ohio — One person is in critical condition after a crash that happened involving a motorcycle, car and semi-truck on Holland-Sylvania Road on Tuesday around 4 p.m.

Ohio State Highway Patrol said the motorcyclist, 39-year-old Ryan Powers, was traveling on Venture Drive and attempted to turn left on a green light. 27-year-old Angelo Smith of Toledo, ran the red light on Holland-Sylvania and struck Powers and his motorcycle.

Smith's Ford Edge pushed Powers' motorcycle down the road into a commercial semi-truck driven by 57-year-old David Schmidlin.

Powers was ejected from the motorcycle and taken to Toledo Hospital with serious injuries. Powers remains in critical condition.

No other injuries were reported at the scene. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, however Powers was not wearing a helmet.

The roadway was blocked for approximately 2 hours. No charges have been filed presently and the crash is still under investigation.

OSHP was assisted at the scene by the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, Toledo Police Department and the Springfield Township Fire Department.
