TOLEDO, Ohio — Editor's note: The following story has been updated to include new information made available in a press release from Toledo Fire and Rescue.
Two firefighters were transported to the hospital early Monday after an incident involving a north Toledo house fire.
Toledo Fire and Rescue crews responded to the 3200 block of Maher Street before 6:30 a.m. after a structure caught on fire. When crews arrived on scene, flames could be seen coming from the second story of the building.
According to a TFRD press release, crews entered the structure and reported the basement and first floor were clear of any victims or occupants. When crews entered the second floor, they encountered heavy fire and high heat.
Both firefighters on the search team sustained non-life threatening burns and exited the structure. They were evaluated and treated on the scene, then transported to a hospital for further treatment.
Crews were able to contain the fire fairly quickly and it was deemed under control by 6:37 a.m., according to the press release.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, a spokesperson said. No civilians sustained injuries as a result of the incident.
