TOLEDO, Ohio — A Pennsylvania man was arraigned in federal court on Tuesday, Jan. 9 after the FBI accused him of stealing over $622,000 from the Lucas County Auditor's Office in 2020.
Darren Barr, 38, has been charged with Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud, Laundering of Monetary Instruments and Illegal Monetary Transactions, according to court documents obtained by WTOL 11.
Allegedly, Barr created fake email accounts that looked like they belonged to different businesses and employees and would send emails to the Lucas County Auditor's Office requesting payment through invoices.
Payment from the auditor's office would then be transferred to multiple bank accounts that were created by Barr. He would then wire transfer the money to different accounts linked across the state of Ohio.
Barr has entered a not guilty plea for all three charges. He is expected to be back in court on Feb. 12 for a pre-trial conference.
