MONCLOVA, Ohio — Monclova Township Trustees named Matt Homik the township's new fire chief in a press release Tuesday, taking the place of the previous fire chief who retired in April.
According to the release, Homik comes to the position from the role of Monclova Township Assistant Fire Chief, which he has held since 2018. Homik began working part-time with Monclova Township Fire in June 2001 as a Volunteer Firefighter/Paramedic. From there, he was promoted to Lieutenant, Captain and Deputy Chief of Operations before becoming the Assistant Fire Chief.
Prior to and during his time with Monclova Township, he worked part-time with Springfield Township Fire and Perrysburg Township Fire, positions he held before leaving in 2018 for Monclova Township Fire for the fulltime position of Assistant Fire Chief.
The former Monclova Township Fire Chief, Kevin Bernhard, retired on April 20, 2023 after leading the department for 31 years.
According to the press release, the department considered 27 applications during the search, which was conducted by a committee of several leaders in the northwest Ohio firefighting community.
