SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Toledo Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle crash in Springfield Township Thursday night.
The crash happened at 10:08 p.m. at the intersection of Dorr Street and North Crissey Road.
Officers at the scene told WTOL 11 that three teenagers were in the car at the time of the crash.
OSHP confirmed in a report the right front passenger, Ace Cuellar, 17, of Rossford, died at the scene.
The 17-year-old driver was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 16-year-old passenger in the rear of the car was also hospitalized with serious injuries, according to OSHP.
According to authorities, a silver Lincoln MKS was traveling north on North Crissey Road when the driver "failed to stop at a stop sign," causing the car to lose control at a curve and strike a tree off the side of the roadway.
In a press release from the Lucas County Sheriff's Office, it said deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for speeding on Crissey Road shortly after 10 p.m. Deputies reported the vehicle did not stop and continued northbound on Crissey Road at a high rate of speed.
The deputy pursued the vehicle for a short distance but called off the chase after being directed to do so by his supervisor. The sheriff's office said that the car is "likely" the same vehicle involved in the crash, but it was not confirmed yet at the time of the press release.
This is a developing story. Stay with WTOL 11 for updates.
