Northwest Ohio beauty school to offer cancer patients, survivors free services during event

The beauty school will offer free haircuts, washes, styles and manicures for people fighting cancer.

SYLVANIA, Ohio — Paul Mitchell The School Toledo offering a selection of free services to cancer patients and survivors for Cancer Survivor Beauty and Support Day.

The beauty school, which is located on Monroe Street in Sylvania, will offer free haircuts, washes, styles and manicures for people fighting cancer.

Lindsay Ramm, an admissions advisor for Paul Mitchell School, shares what it means for the beauticians who serve the survivors.

"There were lots of smiles," Ramm said. "I've seen tears even, because sometimes they can't get out of the house a whole lot if they're going through treatment. So it's just really cute to see them come on in. I know I am a crier, so whenever I see them tear up, I'm like, 'oh, it's beautiful'."

This is an all-volunteer event. No money goes toward anyone who works at the school; this event focuses only on giving back to people, organizers said.

"The reason this event started was to give back to those that need it the most, and I say every year that that is what that event is for," said Ramm.

This is the 21st year of the event; it was founded in 2003. Any cancer patient or survivor who wants to receive complimentary services during Tuesday's event should call 419-885-5191 to schedule an appointment.
