20 homicides in 2020
According to the Toledo Police Department, there have been 20 homicides in the city so far this year; a majority of them shooting deaths.
This time last year, there were 16.
With the summer here and the weather warm, police expect more people to be outside leading to an uptick in violence.
"Every year when summer hits, the crime rate goes up because people are outside in the sun. Tempers flare and there's more opportunity for people to interact and get into all types of disagreements," said Kellie Lenhardt, a spokesperson for the department.
Out of the 20 homicides this year, so far 9 have been solved and detectives hope to have another solved in the near future.
