Raymer Elementary students get lessons in earth and space science

Dozens of students took part in a science fair Thursday morning at Raymer Elementary School.

TOLEDO, Ohio — We are less than two months away from one of the biggest and rarest solar eclipse events of a lifetime.

Dozens of students at Raymer Elementary School got a little taste of what to expect during a science fair Thursday that focused on Earth and space science.

The school partnered with Imagination Station. The fair featured a dozen different activity tables and several of the older students assisted with those activities.

Eighth grade students got an extra lesson, helping younger students with the activities. They showed them how to use each individual science-based table.

One of the featured tables was called Spacecraft Design, where students were able to run through mock trials with space-related equipment.

Kelly Zielinski, a fifth grade teacher at Raymer Elementary, said the experience gives students a chance to learn some real-life things they could potentially use in the future.

"Everything you do as a child will impact you as an adult," Zielinski said. "It's just a lot of fun and I think when kids have those learning experiences that are fun, they are going to remember it much more."

The students participated in multiple science workfair stations.

School leaders at Raymer Elementary say events like these will continue in the future and that the goal is to inspire young minds to imagine things that could shape their lives as adults.
