"Another tragic, pointless loss" | Victim's family remembers a life cut short by gun violence

46-year-old Rashad Ewing was shot and killed on Twining Street in north Toledo on Friday.

TOLEDO, Ohio — 46-year-old Rashad Ewing lost his life to gun violence on Twining Street in north Toledo on Friday. One day later his family and friends held a candlelight vigil to mourn Ewing at the location where he was shot and killed.

Dozens of people showed up to grieve for a life cut short by gun violence.

Ewing's family and friends say he was hard worker and well-liked around the city.

“He was an electrician. He did most of the work around the city. He was a genuine guy and most of everybody knew him”, said his son Johnny Ewing. “Just another loss, you know, another tragic pointless loss. Like he was just a good guy, you know, all-around, so definitely got a friend.” said Ewing.

As a living breathing life turns into a memory, Ewing's cousin Randy Kyser wants him to be remembered for all of the positive things he did for his family and community.

“He was a family man. He loved to travel. He loved everybody. Everybody loved my cousin, you know what I'm saying? He had much love from the streets and everything, from my family and everything, but he loved to do electricity, electric man. Everybody loved his work,” said Kyser.

Robbed of a father, family member, and a friend, Ewing's family says they want an end to the violence.

“Every time he came around, he just made you laugh, you know what I'm saying. I'm just heartbroken with this moment right here,” said Kyser.

Ewing’s alleged killer, 44-year-old Fabian Dorrough, turned himself into police at the Safety Building in downtown Toledo following the shooting.

Ewing’s family hopes that one day the violence will end and people will unite.
