Sunday morning shooting in central Toledo leaves one dead

The man was found suffering from a gunshot wound on Belmont Avenue near Junction Avenue.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo Police Department responded to an early morning shooting on Sunday morning, on the 1400 block of Belmont Avenue. The shooting happened at 6:08 a.m.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. CPR was performed on scene before the victim was sent to the hospital by ambulance. He later died at the hospital due to his injuries.

The victim has since been identified as 34-year-old Caprise Arnett. His manner of death has been ruled a homicide and his cause of death was found, to be a gunshot wound to the torso, according to a Lucas County Coroner's Office autopsy report.

One witness told WTOL 11 that the shooting happened at an after-hours club in the area.

Detectives have opened an investigation into the shooting.
