'It was a very unusual day': Sylvania Township residents react to shooting that injured two

Two people were hospitalized in serious condition after being shot inside a home on Crossfields Road just before 1 a.m. Monday morning.

SYLVANIA TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Residents of Sylvania Township are hoping their usually quiet neighborhood can soon get answers after two people were injured in a shooting around 1 a.m. Monday at a home on Crossfields Road.

Sylvania Township police haven't said what caused the shooting. In the released 911 call, the victims, who have not been identified, said someone came into their home near Corey Road and shot them.

The victims were hospitalized in serious condition.

Sylvania Township resident Nancy Ravin, who has lived on Crossfields Road for 46 years, was left unsettled.

"It was very edgy yesterday," she said. "It was a very unusual day."

Ravin didn't hear the gunshots, but said the scene was something she's never seen before in the neighborhood.

"As if somebody was making a movie on our street because it just seemed really peculiar," she said.

The lack of arrests in the shooting is also of concern to Ravin.

Sylvania Township police said on social media Tuesday afternoon that the department has no reason to believe the public is in danger.

Peter Poll, who has lived on Crossfield Road for 30 years, described the scene of the shoot as a "mad house."

He said he's not worried about safety himself though, but hopes police will have an increased presence in the area.

"My wife's is concerned, I'm not that concerned," Poll said. "If somebody did it randomly, this is probably the last place he'd want to come back to."

But several neighbors have told WTOL 11 that the shooting is the talk of the town. With people making a lot of speculations, they hope it all can get cleared up soon.

"We were able to get a little bit of information and basically we haven't had any more information since then," Ravin said.

Police are asking anyone that lives in the area who might have surveillance video of that night to contact Detective Sergeant Mussery at kmussery@sylvaniatownshippolice.com.
