TOLEDO, Ohio — Editor's note: The following story has been updated to include the latest information.
Police have charged two people – one of whom is not yet in custody – for the November homicide of a 20-year-old man whose body was found in a burning car in east Toledo.
Toledo police have issued a murder warrant for 16-year-old Kristaun Self in the death of Josiah Gill, 20. He is not yet in police custody, according to a report issued by TPD Friday afternoon.
Police also have arrested Alexzander Perez, 31, and charged him with abuse of a corpse. On Feb. 8, Perez was arraigned in Lucas County Common Pleas court where he pleaded not guilty to all charges. A judge set his bond at $190,000. If he posts bond, he will be required to wear an electronic ankle monitor.
Gill's body was discovered in a car that was on fire in a grassy area under the Veterans Glass City Skyway Bridge early on the morning of Nov. 9. Crews had to extinguish the blaze before they could reach Gill's remains.
An autopsy later revealed that Gill had died from a gunshot wound to the head.
According to court documents, in 2016, Perez was indicted for his involvement in the shooting death of Abriel Ruiz at a bar on Broadway Street in south Toledo known at the time as Panama J's.
According to the police report for that incident, witnesses saw Perez fleeing the scene with the homicide suspect.
Perez faced three different charges - two counts of felonious assault and complicity in the commission of murder.
Court records indicate that Perez entered an Alford plea - and received a three-year sentence for a single charge of felonious assault.
