TOLEDO, Ohio — A police officer shot a dog in west Toledo early Friday, wounding it.
According to a Toledo police report, an officer responded to the 1700 block of Brussels Street just before 5 a.m. Friday on a report of a "vicious pit bull" running loose in the area.

The officer exited his vehicle and said the dog behaved aggressively toward him and charged at him. The police officer then fired one round from his department-issued firearm, striking the dog with gunfire once.
The dog was wounded in the incident, and the Lucas County Dog Warden responded to the incident to take custody of it. The severity of the dog's injury is unknown.
