TEMPERANCE, Mich — The Monroe County sheriff is reporting that a local school was the target of a threat of gun violence during its school dance on Saturday, Sept. 21.
According to authorities, Bedford High School was hosting its annual homecoming dance when sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the school for a threat of gun violence.
Sheriff's deputies and MSP troopers said they began to investigate the incident around 7 p.m. Saturday evening, and determined that there was no credible threat to the safety of staff, students and Bedford High School community members at the dance.
Investigators report that the threat was made by a 15-year-old boy from Toledo in regard to a dispute with his ex-girlfriend. Authorities state contact was made with his parents and the incident was determined to be isolated.
The Monroe County sheriff said that students on the school's campus were closely monitored throughout the night for their safety and that the dance was not impacted by the threat.
It is currently unknown if the teen is facing legal repercussions for the threat.
