PEMBERVILLE, Ohio — A total power outage is scheduled for the entire village of Pemberville on Dec. 16.
The outage will impact anyone who pays a village of Pemberville utility bill, according to a notice sent by Mayor Carol Bailey addressed to residents and businesses.
The village was informed of the planned outage by electricity provider FirstEnergy. The complete shutdown is scheduled between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Dec. 16, "in order to power up the newly restored north substation on College Avenue," Bailey said in the notice.
During the outage, Bailey said that the bank will not be able to process transactions and stores and restaurants will most likely not be open for business. Telephones on VOIC will not have service, but cell phones should continue to work without issues.
"Since the Village buys our electricity from First Energy (we distribute) we are at their mercy regarding the timing of this shut-off," Bailey said.
The notice advised taking preventative measures in advance to prepare for the outage, like charging phones, making arrangements for medical needs that require electricity and refraining from doing anything that could be ruined by a loss of power.
"We apologize in advance for this unfortunate event and hope that you can prepare adequately with this notice," Bailey said.
Any questions can be directed to the village office at 419-287-3832, or by calling the mayor directly at 419-419-9645.
The village experienced a similar scheduled total power outage on Dec. 6, 2023, which FirstEnergy said at the time was to provide upgrades and better services.
