Presidential Search Committee announced as University of Toledo works to find next leader

TOLEDO, Ohio — The University of Toledo Board of Trustees has announced the next step in the search for the school's 19th president.

On Wednesday, the board released details of its latest effort, a Presidential Search Committee, to help find the next permanent UToledo president.

UToledo Board of Trustees Chair Patrick J. Kenney announced the committee, which will involve all trustees, members from the Presidential Profile Committee and outside stakeholders. They will be in charge of reviewing candidates and choosing UToledo's next leader.

Kenney previously shared details of the Presidential Profile Committee, consisting of both internal and external stakeholders, that is working on a position profile for the university’s 19th president.

“We’re grateful to the members of the Presidential Profile Committee for their work on the position profile, and we’re looking forward to what the Presidential Search Committee will do in selecting the next leader for UToledo,” Kenney said in Wednesday's press release. “This search is essential for both the university and the greater Toledo community, and we appreciate all the thoughtful input during the process.”

Kenney will be co-chairing the search committee with UToledo Trustee Stephen P. Ciucci.

The Presidential Search Committee members are:

• Dr. Shaza Aouthmany, Emergency Medicine Physician, Associate Dean of Graduate and Continuing Medical Education in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences and co-chair of the Presidential Profile Committee
• Dr. Eleanore Awadalla, Vice Chair of the UToledo Board of Trustees
• Alfred A. Baker, Trustee
• Kevin Bishop, Student Trustee and member of the Presidential Profile Committee
• Nate Boley, Student Trustee
• Pat Bowe, Chairman and former President and CEO of The Andersons
• Frank Calzonetti, Vice President for Innovation and Economic Development and co-chair of the Presidential Profile Committee
• Stephen P. Ciucci, Trustee
• Lidia B. Ebersole, Trustee
• Randy Gardner, former Ohio Department of Higher Education Chancellor and member of the Presidential Profile Committee
• Zac Isaac, Trustee and member of the Presidential Profile Committee
• Patrick J. Kenney, Chair of the UToledo Board of Trustees
• Adam Levine, Trustee
• Michael R. Miller, Trustee
• Joe Napoli, President and CEO of Toledo Mud Hens and Walleye and member of the Presidential Profile Committee
• Jerry Van Hoy, Faculty Senate President, Associate Professor of Sociology, Co-Director of the Program in Law and Social Thought, Director of the Master of Liberal Studies Program, and member of the Presidential Profile Committee
• Dr. Thomas Wakefield, National Trustee and member of the Presidential Profile Committee

Education Executives, the firm selected by the UToledo Board of Trustees to assist with the search, will provide counsel for the Presidential Search Committee.

The UToledo Board of Trustees previously announced its goal of having the next permanent president identified and in place before the next academic year starts.

Matt Schroeder, who has served as executive vice president at UToledo since 2019, has served as interim president since May 20, following the departure of Gregory Postel earlier this year.
