TOLEDO, Ohio — It was a weekend of violence in Toledo resulting in two separate homicide investigations.

On Saturday morning, police were called to the corner of Church Street and Prentice Avenue in east Toledo.

There, police found 32-year old Elisha Meraz, who had been shot.

While details of what led up to the shooting are limited, a neighbor, Kimberly Bright, says she overheard a fight outside Willie J's Bar.

"Around nine, nine-thirty, there was a bunch of girls fighting and arguing. Then around one or so, we heard a bunch of bom, bom, boms," said Bright.

Meraz later died at the hospital.

Bright says following the shooting, she now worries for the safety of her kids.

"We need to bring neighborhood watch back into the neighborhoods. One block at a time, bring in neighborhood watch, and once a month have meetings and be more safer for the kids," said Bright.

The following morning, police were called to the 2500 block of Airport Highway in south Toledo.

There, they found Toledo native Zayn Disher shot inside a home. Court records show he lived less than a mile away.

Disher was also taken to the hospital and later died, the second homicide of the weekend.

One neighbor who wished to remain anonymous says that the shooting was a shock and that the neighborhood has never seen problems like this before.

"No, especially not this block. This block has been a calm block. Most of the people on this block have been here for a number of years," said the neighbor.

According to the neighbor, the house was being rented, and that night, they were having a party. It's unknown at this time if Disher was invited to the party or not.

"You have new people coming in, so we didn't like it at all. But we know that the people who have been here, that longevity, really do look out for each other," said the source.

Anyone with information is being asked to call or text Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111.
