TOLEDO, Ohio — Football season is officially here.

Both the University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University football programs held their weekly press conferences ahead of week one.

The Rockets and Falcons both open the season at home on Thursday, Aug. 29. Toledo will take on Duquesne at 7:30 p.m. and the Falcons will take on Fordham at 7 p.m.

The Rockets are coming off a historic 11-3 season, but one that ended in disappointment with back-to-back losses in the Mid-American Conference championship game and the Arizona Bowl.

As for the Falcons, they're coming off their first winning season since 2015 after posting a record of 7-6. They ended their season with a loss in the Quick Lane Bowl for the second consecutive season.

"This group's been hard at work since mid-January and pretty confident in where we're at right now," Toledo head coach Jason Candle said. "Just want to make sure we have a great week of practice here and prepare for what I believe is a very strong, well-coached Duquesne team. We're looking forward to a stiff challenge here Thursday night and getting this thing kicked off in front of our home crowd."

"We need to get our team on the field and have a really good week of practice and get ready for a really good Fordham team," BGSU head coach Scot Loeffler said. "The great thing about college football these days is that anyone can win at any moment, so we have to bring our ‘A’ game like we'll have to do all 12 weeks."
