The city said the roadway would be restored in a few more days.

TOLEDO, Ohio — City of Toledo crews are working to repair and restore a downtown Toledo roadway after a sinkhole appeared on Sunday.

According to a Toledo police report, officers first spotted the sinkhole on Washington Street between Summit and St. Clair streets on Sunday just before noon. Police contacted city crews, who put up barricades and shut down northbound Washington between Summit and St. Clair. One southbound lane was also shut down.

A city of Toledo spokesperson told WTOL 11 the sinkhole was caused by a water main break. The break was repaired Monday. There was no sewer collapse, the city said.

Crews are expected to return to the site Wednesday to backfill the hole. Meanwhile, the spokesperson estimated it would be a few more days until the roadway is totally restored.
