TOLEDO, Ohio — The Craig Memorial Bridge has been closed to drivers for more than a week, and while work is underway, at least one part needed to get the bridge back open has yet to arrive.
The drawbridge, which carries State Route 65 over the Maumee River, has been stuck in the up position since March 21, when an electrical component became overloaded and melted. The bridge was raised to allow a boat to pass, but was then not able to be lowered.
The contractor, U.S. Utility Contractor, Inc. in Perrysburg, was able to get most of the needed parts and began repair work on Wednesday.
If the remaining part is secured soon, crews estimate the bridge could be repaired and opened some time over the weekend, or early next week.
