DEFIANCE COUNTY, Ohio — Editor's note: The above video is from an unrelated story that aired on June 28, 2023.
A tornado touched down in Defiance County Saturday evening, the National Weather Service Northern Indiana office confirmed Monday.
According to NWS, the EF-0 tornado, which is the lowest category attributed to tornadoes, touched down at approximately 5:42 p.m. Saturday in the 8000 block of US-127 near Sherwood, Ohio.
The tornado lasted only one minute, traveling about 0.22 miles northeast before it dissipated. The tornado's wind speeds were approximately 65 mph, officials said.
A WTOL 11 viewer provided the following photo of the funnel cloud over the area.
This comes less than three weeks after the National Weather Service Cleveland office confirmed 12 tornadoes in northwest Ohio, several of which caused significant damage to property in Point Place, Oak Harbor and surrounding areas.
Tornado sirens also sounded in Lucas County Sunday evening, though the warning expired within a half an hour of its issue without significant incident.
