TOLEDO, Ohio — A Holland man accused of killing an 86-year-old woman in an October hit-and-run was indicted on an aggravated vehicular homicide charge, according to court records released Monday.
The new Lucas County grand jury indictment came after Antonio Lockett was indicted in late October on two counts of failure to stop after a non-public road accident, both felony charges.
According to Toledo Police, Lockett, 45, was arrested and charged on Oct. 20 for allegedly driving a vehicle that struck and killed a woman walking in the parking lot of the Monroe Street Carryout near the 2800 block of Monroe Street. The victim was later identified as 86-year-old Gloria Everett.
In a police report, authorities said Lockett backed up over the victim, then struck another vehicle while still dragging the victim with his vehicle. Lockett then continued backing into the street. Police said Lockett then got out of his vehicle, retrieved the victim's hat from the roadway and placed it on the victim's head. Then, realizing the victim was deceased, Lockett fled the scene, police said.
A report from the Lucas County Coroner's Office Monday identified the victim as Gloria Everett. The office said an autopsy determined the cause of death to be Multiple Traumatic Injuries after she was struck by a vehicle. The coroner's office said the manner of death is currently undetermined pending further investigation.
Police apprehended Lockett in South Toledo and impounded his vehicle. He was booked into the Lucas County jail.
Two days before he allegedly killed Gloria Everett in a hit-and-run on Sunday in central Toledo, Antonio Lockett bonded out of jail on a burglary charge he had been arrested for the day prior.
