TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo police are investigating the armed robbery of two juveniles in east Toledo Saturday who were trying to sell an Orbeez gun - toy weapons that fire water-based gel beads as ammunition.
According to a Toledo police report, officers responded to the 900 block of Starr Avenue after receiving a report of an aggravated robbery. Police said the victims - a 12-year-old and a 13-year-old had advertised their Orbeez gun for sale on Snapchat.
The victims traveled to the Starr Avenue location to make the sale, where they were allegedly met with at least 15 other juveniles. The other juveniles had their own Orbeez guns, while one of them allegedly had a real gun. The suspect with the real gun allegedly robbed the victims of their Orbeez gun.
The victims were not listed as having been injured during the incident.
Orbeez guns have been the subject of some controversy: residents in the Beverly neighborhood in south Toledo have reported teens freezing the Orbeez ammunition to create a harder, stronger impact when fired at a person or object.
