Felony charge filed against driver in crash that killed Rossford preschool teacher

LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. — A driver was charged with a felony in the Lenawee County crash that killed Rossford preschool teacher Eileen Christoffers in January.

According to a press release from the Lenawee County Sheriff's Office, 23-year-old Madison Steinwedel, of Dundee, was charged with felony reckless driving causing death. Steinwedel is accused in a Jan. 29 two-vehicle crash that killed Christoffers. 

Steinwedel was arraigned on March 27. A judge set the defendant's bond at $5,000.

In a press release, the sheriff's office said Christoffers was driving a Chevy Malibu eastbound on M-50 near Rixom Highway when a Ford F350 truck driven by Steinwedel traveling westbound crossed the center line and struck Christoffers' vehicle. Christoffers was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

Steinwedel was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The sheriff's office said that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, the sheriff's office said.
