TOLEDO, Ohio — A suspect is facing multiple additional charges, including those pertaining to an assault on Toledo police officers, after he was arrested during a warrant service for theft Tuesday.
Court documents indicate a warrant was put out for the arrest of 37-year-old Kyle Conaway after he allegedly failed to appear in court for a scheduled hearing Monday. Conaway, according to documents in the Lucas County Common Pleas Court, is charged with three counts of burglary, three counts of theft from a person in a protected class and three counts of receiving stolen property.
When Conaway allegedly failed to appear in court, officers responded to the Lowe's parking lot on West Alexis Road at approximately 2 p.m. Tuesday. Police had received a request for assistance from Lucas County Sheriff's deputies in arresting Conaway.
During the arrest, police claim Conaway punched an officer in the head, and "intentionally drove" his vehicle into the front of a police cruiser, causing minor damage.
Police and deputies then tased Conaway, according to the report. Law enforcement took the suspect to the hospital, and later booked him at the Lucas County jail. Conaway was charged with two counts of fourth-degree felony assault on a peace officer and fifth-degree felony obstructing official business.
Conaway's charges in this incident are in addition to his initial theft-related charges, in which he is accused of stealing a "considerable amount" of personal possessions from a person who had hired him to make their home handicap accessible. According to police records, Conaway blamed the thefts on his employee, though police were ultimately able to recover $11,165 of the victim's possessions from Conaway's address.
Between failing to appear in court and Conaway's charges relating to his alleged actions in the Lowe's parking lot, his total bond comes out to $125,000.
